WiFi Management

ScriptingIT WiFi Security Management provides another layer of network security by disabling wireless cards when a network cable is connected to a laptop or notebook. The potential for an attacker to compromise a wireless connection and gain access to a wired network has long been a concern for security professionals. As wireless use increases, users may not be aware of the dangers of leaving wireless enabled when connected to the Corporate LAN.

The ScriptingIT Difference

ScriptingIT tools are not created as static ‘one size fits all’ solutions. For WiFi, this means tools can be tailored to client preferences, with additional functionality added as required.

WiFi Security Management Options

Display a taskbar icon

Alternatively the tool can be completely silent

Icon can be customised or branded

Change or disable proxy settings

Remove proxy settings when connected via wireless only

Allow wireless on with LAN

Allow a user to manually enable wireless again once connected to LAN

Add additional client specific functions

Change other settings when enabling or disabling wireless

Run as service or through Group Policy

Group Policy allows more granular control for client targeting

Provide deployable package

Tool can be pre-packaged as a silent install for deployment

Only disconnect wireless on given domains

Disable wireless only when wired networks are connected for given Microsoft domains

Logging and auditing

Log files can be created locally and centrally or written to an existing database or event logs

How the tool works (default)

When running, the tool monitors the wireless card and wired network ports. When the state of the wired network changes the wireless network is evaluated as follows:

Wired network is connected

WiFi is evaluated - if enabled then the tool disables it

Option: Proxy settings can be changed at this time

Wired network is disconnected

WiFi is evaluated - if it is disabled then it is re-enabled

Option: Proxy settings can be changed at this time

Pricing

This tool is priced as a site license covering a given domain for all systems.  The total cost depends on ScriptingIT involvement which can include:

Customisation

Clients can choose from options above and also custom options not included (cost depends on development which is generally minimal)

Deployment

ScriptingIT can be involved in PoC, Pilot and full deployment. Deployment can include existing deployment tools, Group Policy or ScriptingIT deployment tools.

Base costs can be as low as $5000NZD for a site license using default settings (silent) with internal deployment.
